Tosu


@In Zen temples, the toilet is one of the three important pracctice places where one must maintain silence.
(The others sre the zazen hall and the bath.) Dogen zenji's shobogenzo includes one chapter titled "Senjo" describing manners appropriate for the toilet. Most of these rules are followed even today.

@This statur of Ususama-myoo, also called Katokongoo, symbolizes the virtue of purification. Each person pays respect to Ususama-myoo when entering and leaving the tosu, thus expressing the hope for purity.
